In the process, the reactant gas mixture consisting of hydrochloric acid and oxygen is reacted in the presence of a salt melt as catalyst in such a way that the reactant gas mixture is fed through a reaction zone as the continuous phase and the salt melt is dispersed within this reaction zone in the continuous phase of reactant gas mixture and the reaction gas being produced therefrom.
