ABSTRACT A process for the photo-polymerization of vinyl compounds in the presence of photo-initiators. The photo- initiators consist of carbonyl compounds and reducing agents. The process is particularly suitable for the polymerization of dental materials containing acrylic acid esters and/or methacrylic acid esters by irradiation with UV or visible light. Suitable photosensitive agents included in the photo-initiators are, for example, camphor quinone, benzildimethylketal and 1-aryl-2,5-dialkylpyrrole.
