ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Process for the polymerisation and copolymerisation of ethylene under a pressure greater than 1000 bars and ethylene injector for carrying out this process, wherein the mixture of polymer and of monomer coming from the reactor is cooled, by injection of the monomer between the let-down valve and the separator at a pressure lower than that of the separator. The injector comprises a nozzle of throat cross-section S1 and a diffuser of throat cross-section S3, such that, q and 0 being the flow rates of the drawn fluid and of the motive fluid respectively, Q/S1 is between 0.20 and 1.35 t/hr.mm2 and Image is between 0.10 and 0.30 t/hr.mm2. The invention enables the quality of the polymer to be improved and the primary compressor of the polymerisation unit to be omitted.
