ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention is directed to new catalysts consisting of a chromium compound and an organometal com- pound of an element of Group II or III of the periodic system on a carrier, the process for preparing the catalyst and its use in polymerizing 1-alkenes containing 2 to 8 carbon atoms, optionally admixed with at most 10 mole% of at least one other 1-alkene of 2 to 8 carbon atoms.
