Unreacted olefins recovered from a continuous polymerization process are passed over a material comprising nickel deposited on a support, the nickel being present as metallic nickel and nickel oxide with the unreacted olefins being recycled to the polymerization reactor. Catalyst yields are improved and a better control of the polymer properties is obtained.
