Process for the preparation of 1,5- and 1,8- dinitroanthraquinone Abstract Preparation of 1,5- and/or 1,8-dinitroanthraquinone, characterised in that 1,5-dinitroanthraquinone is directly precipitated from the anthraquinone nitration mixtures by a adjusting the molar fraction of nitric acid to a value of ?HNO3 = 0.90 to 0.68 at molar ratios of nitric acid : di- nitroanthraquinone of 10 : 1 to 80 : 1; 1,8-dinitroanthra- quinone is then precipitated from the filtrate by adjusting the molar fraction of nitric acid to a value of ?HMO3 = 0.80 to 0.50 at molar ratios of nitric acid : dinitroanthra- quinone of 10 : 1 to 80 : 1.
