23443-480 ABSTRACT 1-Alkoxy-2-dialkylaminoethanes of the formula Image wherein R1 and R2 represent a C1-C10-alkyl, are obtained by reacting corresponding dialkylaminoethanols with alkali metal alkoxide and then with alkyl halides. The alcohol formed from the alkoxide is completely removed by distillation with addition of the reaction product or of a solvent which forms an azeotrope with the alcohol. The final product is recovered by distillation carried out in the presence of alkali metal alkoxide in at least equivalent amounts. The process is characterized by a high yield and purity of the final product.
