A B S T R A C T There is provided a method for preparing 2.5- disubstituted benzamides of the formula: Image wherein: n is l or 2; R stands for a lower alkyl or lower alkenyl; R1 stands for amino, mono- or diloweralkylamino, lower alkyl, lower alkenyl radical; and A is a mono- or di-loweralkylamino, a heterocyclic radical selected from pyrrolidinyl, piperidinyl, imidazolinyl, piperazinyl, thiazolidinyl. morpholinyl which may be substituted by a lower alkyl radical, or a nitrogen containing ring of the formula: Image wherein R2 is lower alkyl or lower alkenyl. and m is l. 2 or 3. which comprises reacting the corresponding 2.5-disubstituted benzoic acid with an amine of the formula H2N(CH2)nA in the presence of phosphoric anhydride. The benzamides thus pre- pared are useful as anxiolytics and in the treatment of peptic ulcers.
