23443-462 Abstract A novel one-stage process for the preparation of 4,4'-bis-(4-aminophenoxy)-diphenyl sulphone is disclosed. The process comprises reacting 4-aminophenol and a 4,4'-dihalodiphenyl sulfone in an organic solvent, in the presence of an inorganic carbonate, for example an alkali metal carbonate. After the reaction is completed, the reaction mixture is cooled and the product is precipitated with the aid of a methanol/water mixture. The product so obtained has a high melting point and can be used without further purification or recrystallisation, as a monomer for the preparation of high-melting polyamides, polyimides and polyamidoimides.
