ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention concerns a process for the preparation of 3,3-dimethyl-allyl alcohol. In said process a 3,3-dimethyl-allyl halide is reacted with an alkaline carboxylate and the 3,3-dimethyl-allyl carboxylate thus obtained is hydrolyzed by treatment with an alkaline hydroxide. Both reactions are carried out in a two-phase system, in the presence of a phase-transfer catalyst. The 3,3-dimethyl- allyl alcohol is obtained in high yields without by-products due to isomerization reactions.
