There is provided a process for the preparation of 5-(alkoxymethyl)-2,3-pyridinedicarboximide compounds having the structural formula I Image (I). The 5-(alkoxymethyl)-2,3-pyridinedicarboximide compounds are useful as intermediates in the preparation of herbicidal 5-(alkoxymethyl)-2-(2-imidazolin-2-yl)- nicotinic acid, ester and salt compounds.

L'invention porte sur un procédé permettant de préparer des composés du 5-(alkoxyméthyl)-2,3-pyridinedicarboximide possédant la formule développée I Image (I). Les composés du 5-(alkoxyméthyl)-2,3-pyridinedicarboximide sont utiles comme intermédiaires dans la préparation d'herbicides à base d'acide 5-(alkoxyméthyl)-2-(2-imidazolin-2-yl)-nicotinique et des esters et des sels correspondants.
