ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of 2-(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzyl)-3,4-dimethylpyridine of formula I Image which comprises reacting 3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl-(3,4-dimethyl- 2-pyridyl) carbinol with thionyl chloride at a temperature below 20°C and reducing the chloride intermediate producing only 2-(3,4,5-trimethoxybenzyl)-3,4-dimethylpyridine, of formula I.
