A process for the preparation of a ceramic foam supporting one or more catalytically active components or precursors thereof, which component is active in a form other than an inorganic oxide, the process comprising impregnation of the foam with an impregnating phase comprising the catalytically active component or a precursor thereof and drying, wherein the impregnating phase has a viscosity greater than 1 cps, wherein drying is performed without substantial prior draining of impregnating phase from the ceramic foam, and wherein the catalytically active component or precursor thereof is present throughout the process in one or more forms other than the inorganic oxide thereof. The ceramic foams prepared by this process find use in catalytic conversion processes, in particular the catalytic partial oxidation of a hydrocarbon feed.

Ce procédé de préparation d'une mousse céramique supportant un ou plusieurs constituants actifs sur le plan catalytique, ou des précurseurs de ces constituants, constituant(s) actif(s) sous une forme autre que celle d'oxyde inorganique, consiste à imprégner la mousse à l'aide d'une phase d'imprégnation comportant le constituant actif sur le plan catalytique, ou un précurseur de celui-ci, puis à sécher. Ce procédé est caractérisé en ce que la phase d'imprégnation possède une viscosité supérieure à 1 cps, en ce que l'on effectue le séchage sans drainer préalablement, hors de la mousse céramique, une part importante de la phase d'imprégnation, et en ce que le constituant actif sur le plan catalytique, ou un précurseur de celui-ci, est présent tout au long du procédé sous une ou plusieurs formes autres que sa forme d'oxyde inorganique. On peut utiliser les mousses céramiques préparées selon ce procédé dans des processus de conversion catalytique, notamment dans l'oxydation partielle catalytique d'une charge d'hydrocarbures.
