SO-5-39337C/YT/85 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An initial condensate of phenol resin containing a foaming agent and a curing agent is put into a mold by coating, spraying or other means in such a manner that a layer of uniform thickness is obtained. An aggregate such as perlite is then put into the mold. The initial condensate is heated to cause foaming so that the gaps between particles of the aggregate are filled with the phenol resin which is being foamed and cured to obtain an integrated body. Thus, a flame retardant composite phenol foam having an aggregate dispersed therein and having no voids between the particles of the aggregate is prepared.
