ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION A process for the preparation of a recombinant deoxyribonucleic acid which contains the genetic code for an antigenic protein from herpes viruses is described. This combined DNA is obtained by bonding a corresponding genoma section of the virus to a so- called vector and introducing it into a cell which then produces the antigenic protein. The protein is isolated and used for the preparation of an antiserum, a vaccine or a diagnostic agent.
