La présente invention a pour objet un procédé de préparation d'un composé polyaromatique comprenant au moins un enchaînement de deux cycles aromatiques. Le procédé de l'invention qui consiste à faire réagir un composé aromatique porteur d'un groupe partant et un acide arylboronique et/ou ses dérivés, en présence d'une base et d'une quantité efficace d'un catalyseur au nickel est caractérisé par le fait que l'on conduit la réaction, dans un solvant réactionnel qui est l'eau éventuellement en mélange avec un solvant organique et en présence d'une quantité efficace d'un catalyseur à base de nickel ligandé par au moins une phosphine hydrosoluble.
