ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Disclosed is a process for the preparation of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal peroxide, comprising the steps of mixing a concentrated aqueous suspension comprising an alkali metal oxide or hydroxide or an alkaline earth metal oxide or hydroxide with an aqueous solution containing hydrogen peroxide to obtain a peroxide suspension; agitating the peroxide suspension for a period of time sufficient to substantially complete the reaction between the hydrogen peroxide and the oxide or hydroxide; and subjecting the substantially completed reaction mixture to spray drying. Also disclosed is an improved product resulting from this process.
