ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process for the reaction of 1,3-butadiene, alkanol and carbon monoxide in the presence of a palladium-containing Group VB tertiary donor ligand catalyst composition to provide an alkyl nonadienoate ester. The reaction is carried out in the presence of a catalyst-promoting amount of alkoxide ion. The yield of ester reaction product is significantly increased.
