23443-479 ABSTRACT The invention relates to a process for the preparation of alkyl polyglycosides containing C8-to 18-alkyl radicals by reacting alkyl glycosides containing C1- to C6-alkyl groups and alcohols having 8 to 18 C atoms. The process of transglycosyla- tion is carried out in a reaction column and not in a stirred reactor. This improves the space-time yield of the process and reduces the thermal stress on the products thus producing products having improved colour characteristics. The products are useful as surfactants, for example for household and cosmetic applica- tions.
