ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: Di-n-propyl acetamide of the formula: Image is obtained by hydrolysing di-n-propyl acetonitrile by means of an 80% by weight sulphuric acid aqueous solution in the proportion of 2 to 2.5 g of dilute acid/g of nitrile, and at a temperature between 80°C and 130°C. The process of the invention enables one to obtain yields coming close to 90% by weight of pure product and even to 96% by weight after recycling. Di-n-propyl acetamide is a known product which is widely used commercially as an anti- epileptic agent.
