The invention provides a process for preparing a crystalline vanadyl sulphate / vanadous sulphate material, the process including the steps of providing a mixture of vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) and vanadium trioxide (V2O3); adding to the mixture a predetermined volume of a sulphuric acid solution to produce a powder slurry; and heating the slurry at a temperature and for a time sufficient to form a crystalline vanadyl sulphate / vanadous sulphate material. The invention extends to a process for preparing an electrolyte from such a crystalline vanadyl / vanadous sulphate material, including the steps of dissolving the crystalline material in boiling water and adding a stabilising agent, typically phosphoric acid, to stabilise the electrolyte.

La présente invention concerne un procédé de préparation d~un matériau cristallin de sulfate de vanadyle/sulfate vanadeux, le procédé comprenant les étapes consistant à fournir un mélange de pentoxyde de vanadium (V2O5) et de trioxyde de vanadium (V2O3) ; ajouter au mélange un volume prédéterminé d~une solution d~acide sulfurique pour produire une suspension épaisse d~une poudre ; et chauffer la suspension épaisse à une température et sur une période suffisamment longue pour former un matériau cristallin de sulfate de vanadyle/sulfate vanadeux. L~invention concerne également un procédé de préparation d~un électrolyte à partir d~un tel matériau cristallin de sulfate de vanadyle/sulfate vanadeux, comprenant les étapes consistant à dissoudre le matériau cristallin dans de l~eau bouillante et à ajouter un agent stabilisant, typiquement de l~acide phosphorique, pour stabiliser l'électrolyte.
