ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE The invention relates to a process for the preparation of aromatic carbonates of formula Image where R is a substituent chosen among the alkyl, alkoxy, aryl, aryloxy, NO2 groups or hydrogen, consisting of contacting compounds of the type Image where R has the above meanings and R1 is a non tertiary alkyl group with a catalyst system selected from titanium tetraphenate or titanium tetramethylate, the reaction being carried out in liquid phase with or without solvents at temperatures between 25 and 350°C and pressures between 0.1 and 100 absolute atmospheres.
