ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process is disclosed for the preparation of a compound of the formula (I): Image (I) or an ester thereof wherein R1 is an inert organic group of up to 14 carbon atorns and R2 is an inert organic group of up to 16 carbon atoms, the NR1R2 group containing up to 22 carbon atoms, which process comprises the reaction of a compound of the formula (II): Image (II) wherein X is Cl, Br or I and A is a group such that CO2A is an ester group With a compound of the formula (III): HNR1R2 (III) wherein R1 and R2 are as defined in relation to formula (I) and thereafter if desired converting the thus formed ester to the acid.
