21489-7089 Process for the preparation of brominated pyrrolo-[3,4-c]-pyrroles Abstract Process for the preparation of brominated pyrrolo-[3,4-c]- pyrroles by bromination of a pyrrolo-[3,4-c]-pyrrole or of a mixture of different pyrrolo-[3,4-c]-pyrroles of the formula I Image (I) wherein A and B are identical or different isocyclic aromatic radicals and Z is oxygen or sulfur, with an amount of a brominating agent which supplies 0.5 to 70 equivalents of bromine, with or without a solvent, and subsequent isolation of the brominated pyrrolo-[3,4-c]-pyrrole by removal of the excess brominating agent and, if appropriate, the solvent by customary methods. The desired brominated pyrrolo-[3,4-c]-pyrroles are obtained directly in a high yield by this process.
