2740/US3665 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to a process for the prep- aration of self-crosslinking cationic paint binders which can be diluted with water after protonation and are based on modified aminoalkylation products of phenols; to the binders prepared by this process and to their use for formulating water-dilutable paints, in particular electrodeposition paints which can be deposited cathodically. The process is characterized in that an aminoalkylation product of a phenol containing at least one secondary amino group is reacted with epoxide compounds, and after temperature treatment, the reaction product is reacted with partly blocked isocyanate compounds. The process permits the use of blocking agents which allow stoving temperatures in the range of 130 to 150°C.
