The present invention relates to a process for the preparation of a coating by a) applying to a water-resistant substrate an aqueous coating composition containing water and a binder which consists essentially of at least one hydrophilically-modified organic polyisocyanate or polyisocyanate mixture which has an NCO content of 5 to 30, preferably l0 to 23% by weight, and is dispersible in water and b) curing the composition in the presence of moisture to form a polyurea coating.
