A process for the preparation of a melamine condensation product comprising the step of heating a starting material comprising melamine or a melamine salt in the presence of: (i) at least one organic acid, (ii) at least one ammonia or melamine salt of the organic acid, or (iii) a mixture of (i) and (ii), under reaction conditions effective for the formation of the melamine condensation product. The melamine condensation product with a residual condensation agent content of less than 1 wt.% is useful in a moldable polymer composition possessing flame-retardant properties.

L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de préparer un produit de condensation de mélamine, comprenant l'étape consistant à chauffer une matière de départ contenant de la mélamine ou un sel de mélamine, en présence de: (i) au moins un acide inorganique, (ii) au moins un sel ammoniacal ou un sel de mélamine, de l'acide organique, ou (iii) un mélange de (i) et (ii), dans des conditions de réaction permettant la formation du produit de condensation de mélamine. Le produit de condensation de mélamine, lequel présente une teneur en agent de condensation résiduel inférieur à 1 % en poids peut être utilisé dans une composition polymère moulable possédant des caractéristiques d'ignifugation.
