The invention provides a process for the preparation of fungicidally active cyclopentene derivatives of the general formula Image (I), cyclopentane derivatives of the general formula Image (II), and cyclohexane derivatives of the general formula Image (III) in which n, R, R1, R2, R5, X and Y are as herein defined. Compounds of formula II and III are also provided which are useful as intermediates in the preparation of certain fungicidally active cyclopentane derivatives.
