ABSTRACT An improved process for the preparation of diamines of the diphenylmethane series by condensing arylamines in which the para-position relative to the amino group is free, with formaldehyde, followed by rearrangement at elevated tempera- ture, a copolymer of tetrafluoroethylene and perfluorovinyl ethers being used as a heterogeneous acid catalyst. By means of this process the content of polynuclear polyamines with three or more nuclei, in the reaction product, can be re- duced to less than 5% by weight.
