ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention is a process for the preparation of anthracycline disaccharides having antitumor activity by condensing N-trifluoroacetyldaunomycin with a 1-halosugar in the presence of a silver salt such as AgSO3CF3 as catalyst to form a protected di-glycoside which upon mild alkaline hydrolysis yields the novel disaccharides.
