A process for the preparation of .epsilon.-caprolactam starting from 6- aminocaproic acid, 6-aminocaproamide, 6-aminocaproic ester, 6- aminocapronitrile, oligomers or polymers of these compounds or mixtures comprising at least two of these compounds, which process is performed in the presence of N-(5-carboxypentyl)-.epsilon.-caprolactam and/or derivative thereof in an amount of less than 50 wt.% and more than 0.1 wt.% (based on the total reaction mixture).

L'invention concerne un procédé de préparation de .epsilon.-caprolactame commençant par l'acide 6-aminocaproïque, 6-aminocaproamide, l'ester 6-aminocaproïque, 6-aminocapronitrile, des oligomères ou des polymères de ces composés ou des mélanges renfermant au moins deux de ces composés. Le procédé est exécuté en mis en oeuvre en présence de N-(5-carboxypentyl)-.epsilon.-caprolactame et/ou de l'un de ses dérivés en quantités inférieures à 50 % en pds et supérieures à 0,1 % en pds (sur la base du mélange de réaction total).
