A process is described for the preparation of ethylene-propylene copolymers having density values from 0.880 to 0.915 g/ml, for the copolymerization of ethylene and propylene, at a high pressure and at a high temperature, in a reactor vessel or tubular reactor, in the presence of a catalyst consisting of an aluminium trialkyl and a solid catalyst component containing 0.4 to 4.0 wt% titanium on a microspherical magnesium chloride support, in which the titanium is present partially in the trivalent and partially in the tetravalent form. The copolymers thus obtained are used for the production of film or for mixing with other polymers or with bitumen, in the production of bituminous casings for waterproofing, in the expanded foam sector and as a blending material for modifying the rheological character- istics of LLDPE.
