ABSTRACT A process for the production of fiber reinforced flat bodies is described, wherein a water containing, flowable core layer is introduced between a substrate layer and a cover layer to form a three layer composite body with its own internal co- hesion wherein at least one of the outer layers comprises actively needle bondable fibers which are bonded together by needling so that the layers remain together in a deformable state; the water containing, flowable core layers may consist of mud masses, paper strips or shreds soaked in water to which glue may be added, but also of a raw ceramic mass, which is not only rein- forced by needling, but is simpler to manipulate.
