A B S T R A C T PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF FIBRE-REINFORCED POLYVINYL CHLORIDE COMPOSITES A process for the preparation of reinforced polyvinyl chloride (PVC) composites containing PVC-grafted cellulose fibre material as reinforcing component, which comprises: Step A - grafting vinyl chloride onto a cellulose fibre material by polymerization in an aqueous medium in the presence of a polymerization initiator based on a metal which complexes to hydroxyl and/or 1,2-dihydroxy groups, thus providing a reaction product which is essentially a mixture of PVC-grafted cellulose fibre material and PVC homopolymer, Step B - isolating the reaction product from the aqueous medium as under Step A, and Step C - employing the isolated reaction product as under Step B to prepare a composite via a thermal moulding process.
