A B S T R A C T A PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF HYDROCARBONS FROM CARBON-CONTAINING MATERIAL Process for the preparation of hydrocarbons in which coal is converted by partial oxidation into synthesis gas, which serves as a feedstock for the synthesis of hydrocarbons. A gaseous mixture contain- ing non-converted synthesis gas and low boiling hydro- carbons is separated from the effluent of the synthesis reactor and recycled to the coal conversion reactor. The coal to be converted is preferable introduced in pulverized form into the partial oxidation reactor by means of the gaseous mixture. The economy of the production of liquid hydrocarbons from coal is improved in this way.
