A process for the preparation of 2-hydroxy-4-methylthiobutyric acid ester which comprises (a) a first step of reacting 2-hydroxy-4- methylthiobutyronitrile with sulphuric acid to produce 2-hydroxy-4- methylthiobutyramide, and (b) a second step of reacting the 2-hydroxy-4- methylthiobutyramide with an alcohol to produce a 2-hydroxy-4- methylthiobutyric acid ester, the two steps being carried out in the same reaction medium.

L'invention concerne un procédé relatif à l'élaboration d'ester d'acide 2-hydroxy-4-méthylthiobutyrique comprenant (a) une première étape de réaction de 2-hydroxy-4-méthylthiobutyronitrile et d'acide sulfurique pour produire du 2-hydroxy-4-méthylthiobutyramide, et (b) une seconde étape de réaction de 2-hydroxy-4-méthylthiobutyramide et d'alcool pour produire un ester d'acide 2-hydroxy-4-méthylthiobutyrique, ces deux étapes étant conduites dans le même milieu de réaction.
