Abstract of the disclosure Process for the preparation of ketals The invention relates to a ketalization process for especially sterically hindered ketones, where a ketone of the formula R1COCH3, in which R1 is optionally un- saturated alkyl, is reacted with catalytic amounts of alcohol R2OH, in which R2 is alkyl or haloalkyl, and at least equimolar amounts of orthoformic acid ester HC(OR2)3 under acid conditions and the resultant formic acid ester HCOOR2 is distilled off to give ketals of the formula R1C(CH3) (OR2)2.
