A process is described for preparing a compound (I) Image (I) (wherein R1 represents a methyl, ethyl or isopropyl group and OR2 represents a hydroxy, methoxy or acetyloxy group) which comprises reducing a compound (II) Image (II) (wherein R1 is as defined above, R3 is a hydrogen atom, a methyl group or a protecting group and Hal represents a halogen atom). The intermediates (II) are new compounds.
