Abstract of the Disclosure A process for producing methyl-tertiary-butyl ether by reacting isobutylene and methanol in the presence of a fixed bed of an acid ion exchange resin wherein effluent from the reaction is recycled through the bed along with the fresh reactants, wherein the molar ratio of methanol to isobutylene passing into the bed is about 1/1, and wherein the feed is passed into the bed at a temperature of about 120° to about 140°F, and preferably a portion of the effluent at a temperature of 100°F to 110°F is passed into a second bed of acid ion exchange resin for the conversion of unreacted isobutylene and methanol into said ether.
