ABSTRACT This invention relates to a novel process for the preparation of compounds of the formula I Image (I) (wherein R1 stands for alkyl, cycloalkyl or optionally halogeno- or Alkyl- substituted aryl; R2 is hydrogen or alkyl; R3 is alkyl) which comprises reacting a carbamate of the formula III, Image (III) (wherein R3 has the same meaning as stated above) with an ester of the formula II, Image (II) (wherein R1 and R2 are as stated above and A stands for a phenyl group bearing at least two electron-attracting substituents) in the presence of a base. The compounds mentioned are useful as herbidides.
