ABSTRACT N,N'-disubstituted 2-naphthaleneethanimidamide is prepared by the conversion of a nitrile into the novel imido ester salt intermediate by alcoholysis followed by treatment of the intermediate with an alklamine to give the product. The final products display central nervous system activity e.g. antidepressant.
