ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A process is disclosed for preparing compounds of the general formula (I): (I) Image wherein R1 is a lower alkyl having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms; R2 is hydrogen or a lower alkyl having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms; and R3 is a saturated or unsaturated straight or branched alkyl having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms. The compounds of the general formula (I) exhibit significantly higher antiulcer and anti- secretory activity as well as lower anticholinergic activity when compared to the compounds of the prior art. The compounds of the general formula (I) are also less toxic and have a higher therapeutic index than prior art compounds.
