Isobutyl-hydratropic acid having the formula: Image (I) is obtained by treating a compound of the general formula: Image (II) wherein R and R' are identical or different and each represent an alkyl radical having from 1 to 5 carbon atoms, with a strong acid in aqueous solution or with an addition salt of a strong acid with an organic base, at a temperature ranging from 200 to 240°C. P. Isobutyl-hydratropic acid is a compound widely used in thereby as an antiinflammatory, analgesic and antirheumatic agent.
