ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE New and improved palladium catalysts are described and a process for preparing the same by depositing palladium on activated carbon by contacting the activated carbon with a palladium salt solution wherein prior to treatment of the activated carbon with the palladium salt solution, the activated carbon is at least partially loaded with water and/or a water miscible liquid. The palladium/activated carbon catalysts are particularly useful in the continuous hydrogenation of fats, oils, and free fatty acids.
