A process for the preparation of elastic, optionally cellular, moldings of urethane-group- containing polyurea elastomers having a compact surface skin by reacting (a) a polyisocyanate or a polyisocyanate mixture of the diphenylmethane series; (b) a polyol component having an (average) molecular weight of from about 1800 to about 18,000 and an (average) hydroxyl functionality of at least 2.5, said polyol component consisting of at least one polyether polyol or polyester polyol; (c) aromatic diamines having one or more alkyl substituents at aromatic ring positions ortho to the amino groups; and (d) optionally, known auxiliaries and additives used in polyurethane chemistry; the quantitative ratio between components (a) and (b) corresponding to an NCO/OH equivalent ratio of at least 4:1, and diamines (c) being used in a quantity such that the isocyanate index based on components (a), (b) and (c) is from 70 to 130, wherein at least 90% of component (b) is reacted with the total quantity of component (a) to form an isocyanate semiprepolymer and wherein said isocyanate semiprepolymer is then reacted by reaction injection molding with diamines (c) or with a mixture of diamines (c) with up to 10% by weight of component (b), the optional auxiliaries and additives being included in one or both of said semiprepolymer and diamines (c).
