PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF PURE ?,?,?',?'-TETRAMETHYL- PHENYLENE BISCARBINOLS Abstract of the Disclosure A process for the preparation of pure ?,?,?',?'-tetra- methyl-phenylene biscarbinols by the oxidation of diisopropyl- benzenes at elevated temperatures with air or oxygen in the presence of aqueous solutions of strong alkalies, wherein the reaction mixture is freed from alkalies by washing with water, and ?,?,?',?'-tetramethyl phenylene biscarbinol is isolated by fractional distillation at pressures of at least 1 Torr and temperatures of at least 120°C.
