ABSTRACT Process for the preparation of reinforced vulcani- sates by the vulcanisation of natural or synthetic rubber mixtures with novolak resins in the presence of an amine compound as curing agent, wherein the vulcanisation is effected in the presence, as curing agent, of reactive melamine resins obtained by reacting melamine with 0.5 to 6 moles of aldehyde, in a proportion of 0.5 to 120% by weight relative to novolak resin and wherein the phenolic component of the novolak resin is phenols, alkyl phenols, mixtures of alkyl phenols with phenol, and may also contain additions of resorcinol, includes rubber articles and motor vehicle tyres manufac- tured from these products.
