The invention relates to a process for the preparation of stanol esters by hydrogenating a sterol blend in a hydrogenation solvent and at an elevated temperature in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst, by removing the hydrogenation catalyst from the obtained hot reaction solution, by transesterifying the intermediate stanol blend with a fatty acid methyl ester at an elevated temperature and in the presence of a transesterification catalyst, and by finally purifying the stanol ester blend thus obtained. According to the invention, the intermediate stanol blend is neither crystallized nor removed from the reaction solution but the hydrogenation solvent is replaced therein at least in part by a transesterification reagent. Alternatively, the hydrogenation solvent may also be used as the transesterifacation solvent, and preferably also as the transesterification reagent.
L'invention concerne un procédé permettant de préparer des esters de stanol. Selon le procédé, on hydrogène un mélange de stérols dans un solvant d'hydrogénation et à une température élevée en présence d'un catalyseur d'hydrogénation; on extrait le catalyseur d'hydrogénation de la solution de réaction chaude obtenue; on transestérifie le mélange de stanols intermédiaire avec un ester méthylique d'acides gras à une température élevée et en présence d'un catalyseur de transestérification; et on purifie le mélange d'esters de stanol ainsi obtenu. Selon l'invention, on ne fait pas cristalliser le mélange de stanol intermédiaire et on ne l'extrait pas de la solution de réaction mais, dans cette dernière, on remplace au moins partiellement le solvant d'hydrogénation par un réactif de transestérification. Le solvant d'hydrogénation peut également être utilisé comme solvant de transestérification et, de préférence, comme réactif de transestérification.
