A process is described for the preparation of a compound of formula (I) or a stereoisomeric compound thereof, in which the 1,2-position is saturated or is a double bond; X1 and X2 are each independently hydrogen or halogen; R1 is hydrogen or acyl; R2 is hydroxyl, acyloxy or oxo; and R3 is alkyl, by reacting a compound of formula (II) with an aldehyde R3CHO in either phosphoric acid or about 60 % to about 75 % w/w sulphuric acid. Compounds of formula (I) are either pharmacologically active steroids or are intermediates in the synthesis of pharmacologically active steroids.

L'invention concerne un procédé de préparation d'un composé de la formule (I) ou d'un composé stéréoisomère de celle-ci. Dans ce composé, la position 1, 2 est saturée ou est une double liaison, X?1¿ et X?2¿ représentent chacun d'une manière indépendante hydrogène ou halogène, R?1¿ représente hydrogène ou acyle, R?2¿ représente hydroxyle, acyloxy un oxo et R?3¿ représente alkyle. Dans ce procédé, on fait réagir un composé de la formule (II) avec un aldéhyde R?3¿CHO soit dans de l'acide phosphorique soit dans de l'acide sulfurique ayant une concentration en poids allant d'environ 60 % à environ 75 % en poids. Les composés de la formule (I) sont des stéroïdes actifs sur le plan pharmacologique ou des intermédiaires pour la synthèse de stéroïdes actifs sur le plan pharmacologique.
