Process for the preparation of styrene comprising the gas phase dehydration of 1-phenyl-ethanol at elevated temperature in the presence of a dehydration catalyst, wherein the dehydration catalyst consists of shaped alumina catalyst particles having a surface area (BET) in the range of from 80 to 140 m2/g and a pore volume (Hg) in the range of from 0.35 to 0.65 ml/g, of which 0.03 to 0.15 ml/g is in pores having a diameter of at least 1000 nm.
L'invention concerne un procédé relatif à l'élaboration de styrènes, qui consiste à effectuer la déshydratation en phase gazeuse de 1-phényl-éthanol à température élevée, en présence d'un catalyseur de déshydratation, sachant que ce catalyseur est constitué de particules catalytiques d'alumine formées ayant une surface (BET) comprise entre 80 et 140 m<2>/g et un volume poreux (Hg) compris entre 0,35 et 0,65 ml/g, dont une fourchette de 0,03 à 0,15 ml/g pour des pores qui présentent un diamètre d'au moins 1000 nm.
